High school, college, CEGEP or university student? Looking for a summer job that is relevant to your studies? A summer job can be more than just a way to earn money. YCW offers a range of opportunities. You might organize cultural, sports, or recreational projects in an Aboriginal friendship centre or in a heritage organization. Or you may gain practical work experience while improving your second-language skills. Or you might learn new skills in preserving and promoting our cultural heritage. Apply and gain valuable experience, establish contacts within the workplace and have fun this summer.
General Student Eligibility Criteria
You are eligible if you:
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible. - are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- meet the eligibility criteria of the program for which you are applying;
- are registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory;
- are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
- have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;
- intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
Note: Students with a disability are eligible for part-time work.
All you have to do is choose the program(s) that work(s) best for you according to your age, skills and interests ... and apply! There are approximately 2,700 summer job opportunities!
YCW in Both Official Languages
- Objective:
- Acquire work experience related to your studies and explore career opportunities while improving your second-language skills. You could also have a great geographic exchange experience and develop a network in official language minority communities.
- Duration:
- 6 to 16 weeks; 30 to 40 hours per week
- Number of positions:
- up to 750
- You are eligible if you:
- have a working knowledge of both English and French;
- are willing to work in another region of Canada.
Note: For participants who travel 125km or more for their job, YCWBOL will pay the cost of one round trip between the students residence and workplace and offers an allowance for housing costs incurred by a participant who has to pay for rent. Students must contact the appropriate delivery organization for all travel arrangements.
Priority is given to candidates who have not previously participated in a summer work experience program.

YCW in Heritage Organizations
- Objective:
- Improve your skills while acquiring practical knowledge in areas of heritage preservation, conservation, research, interpretation, promotion or new media by working in a museum, archive, library, cultural centre or heritage site.
- Duration:
- 6 to 16 weeks; 30 to 40 hours per week
- Number of positions:
- up to 1,660
- You are eligible if you:
- meet the general student eligibility criteria.
Note: YCW in Heritage Organizations may cover transportation costs for students who travel more than 125 km between their primary residence and their summer job. Applications for travel assistance are made through your employer. Accommodation costs for those who relocate for a YCWHO position are the responsibility of the student.

YCW for Aboriginal Urban Youth
- Objective:
- Acquire experience working with young people by organizing cultural, sports or recreational projects in an Aboriginal friendship centre.
- Duration:
- 6 to 16 weeks; 30 to 40 hours per week
- Number of positions:
- up to 280
- You are eligible if you:
- are a Canadian Aboriginal student, graduate or unemployed youth intending to return to school;
- live in an urban centre.
