Sport Participation Development Projects (SPDP)
Overview
The Government of Canada, in collaboration with its Provincial/Territorial partners, has confirmed the broad directions of the new Canadian Sport Policy, which includes a strong commitment to increasing sport participation.
The Sport Participation Development Projects (SPDP) of National Sport Organizations (NSOs) and Multi-Sport/Multi-Service Organizations (MSOs) are aligned with the vision and participation goals of the Canadian Sport Policy. The projects are funded under the Sport Support Program and support NSOs and MSOs in their efforts to increase current participation levels, recruit new participants and reduce the dropout rates.
Eligibility
The SPDP is open to NSOs that have met all requirements of the Sport Funding and Accountability Framework (SFAF) and to MSOs currently funded by Sport Canada. The SFAF is a program management tool, which aligns federal sport programs for NSOs with federal sport priorities in the areas of high-performance sport, sport development and management. Any NSO or MSO project with the goal of increasing sport participation may be considered for this funding, but preference will be given to those projects that target the following groups:
- Children and Youth;
- Girls and Young Women;
- Underrepresented groups, including Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, youth at risk, visible minorities and economically disadvantaged individuals.
Projects must be designed for implementation in both official languages and requests for support are limited to operational costs only.
Application Deadline
The deadline for applications for funding for NSOs is specified in the Contribution Guidelines for 2004-2005. These guidelines were distributed to NSOs in January 2004.
The deadline for application for funding for MSOs is July 31, 2004. SPDP contribution guidelines for MSOs were distributed in June 2004 and are available on this Website under "Multi-Sport/Multi-Service Organization Support Program".
