Artistic Approach

The members of Karkwa are part of the new generation of Francophone Canadian artists who have renewed storytelling through rhythmic song, with a more current style of music.

Two basic aspects of Karkwa’s style are brought together to produce this standout effect: complex and distinctive music, supported by rich instrumentation; and polished lyrics that are at times are metaphorical, but always grounded in reality.

Using the latest technology coupled with analog instruments from the 1960s and 1970s enables the five members of the group to create musical compositions that are best appreciated in live performance. Karkwa’s works and performances are an outstanding display of creativity and modernity in the French music of Canada.
