Brooke Pighin's Personal Best

October 3, 2009 - It was a satisfied athlete indeed that we met after the javelin throw competition on Thursday. Brooke Pighin's 51.87-metre throw was her best performance to date. "After a long season, I am really happy with this result." For Brooke, the experience of the Games is unique. "I have never been outside of North America, and now, here I am in the Middle East. I'm loving it."

We also asked Brooke to explain why javelin throwers scream after they throw. "It's that extra oomph. It's putting everything you have into it. It's not only your body that's throwing it anymore. When you yell, you're putting your heart and soul into it; everything's going into your throw."
