Games of la
Francophonie

Message from Team Canada's Head of Mission

Madeleine Duchesne

We have finally arrived in Beirut! With only a few hours left before the opening ceremonies of the VI Games of La Francophonie, the adrenaline is rising and you can almost feel the excitement in the Athletes Village!

Some of you will play your first soccer game today. Competitions in this sport begin early because of the large number of matches required. If you’re not playing and if you’re not too worn out from your trip, go cheer them on. Team Canada kicks off against the Congo at 9 p.m. tonight at the Rafic Hariri Stadium in Sidon.

After months of preparation, you are all ready to compete. And just like the 12,000 artists and athletes who have taken part in the Games since their inception in 1989, you will have an unforgettable experience! The Games’ organizing committee has worked hard to be sure you are comfortable and to offer you top-notch Games.

I wish you the best of luck, and I encourage you to take advantage of every moment at the Games in Beirut to meet other young artists and athletes and discover the diversity of French language and culture around the world. Live the Games to the fullest! Long live the Games!

Madeleine Duchesne

Head of Mission
