Mezzé, arak et café  turc

Mezzé, arak and Turkish coffee
In Lebanon, everything is an excuse for socializing. Mezzé, the meal that is the basis of the country's culinary tradition, is a perfect example. An assortment of appetizers are served—sometimes in industrial quantities—to make up an entire meal. Some mezzés have included a hundred different courses. Good luck with the dishes!

Tabbouleh, hummus (chickpea purée), olives, baba ganoush (grilled eggplant dip), rice-stuffed vine leaves, kebbé (lamb), brain in lemon sauce, small poultry in pomegranate sauce, grilled fish, chiche taouk (grilled chicken), filled donuts and many other dishes are on the menu.

A typical Lebanese meal can include a series of raw mezzés, followed by cooked mezzés and ice cream, fruit and pastries, all accompanied by arak—an aniseed-flavoured spirit  served with water and ice.

When in Beirut, treat yourself to this extravagance at least once and finish your meal as the Lebanese do, with a fine Turkish coffee!
