Lebanon at a Glance
A meeting-place of cultures and civilizations, Lebanon (Loubnân in Arabic) will welcome the family of French-speaking countries for the next ten days. Covering just 10,450 km2, the country is home to about 4 million people. However, about 13 million Lebanese nationals live abroad. Lebanon enjoys a Mediterranean climate and an extraordinary landscape, featuring 220 km of coastline along the Mediterranean Sea to the west and two mountain ranges to the east. A country of religious and cultural diversity, Lebanon embodies the spirit of the Organizing Committee’s slogan for the VI Games of La Francophonie—solidarity, diversity and excellence. In addition to speaking Arabic, the official language, a large part of the population is also fluent in French or English—and often both!
