In accordance with Paragraph 4.2 of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Agreement on French-Language Services - 2006-07 to 2008-09, Canada will financially support the project described below.
Project title
"Workshops on how to be a welcoming community"
Duration
From April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007
Objectives
- To provide Francophones in Newfoundland and Labrador with the knowledge and tools required to use immigration as a means to strengthen their communities. This will be accomplished through a series of French-language workshops introducing a tool box entitled, "Attracting and Retaining Immigrants: A Tool Box of Ideas for Smaller Centres". The workshops will take place in the regions of Labrador City, Port-au-Port Peninsula, and St. John's.
Expected results
- The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador supports Francophone communities in meeting challenges such as linguistic and cultural erosion.
- Francophones in Newfoundland and Labrador have a greater appreciation of the positive impact of immigration and cultural diversity.
