Canada plays an important role in the coordination of international governments' efforts to combat doping in sport, as well as in the direction, and support for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The Government of Canada was very involved in the development of the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport and tabled its acceptance of this Convention with UNESCO in November 2005. Canada is also a signatory to the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention. International collaboration and cooperation are important components of the overall strategy to promote the principles of ethical sport and to harmonize efforts to eradicate doping in sport.

Canada is also a member of the Sport Council of the Americas (CADE) (only available in Spanish) and sits on the CADE Anti-Doping Committee. Canada also plays an active role in the Conference of the Youth and Sports Ministers of French-speaking Countries (CONFEJES) Anti-Doping Committee (only available in French). Canada is also a member of the International Anti-Doping Arrangement – a forum for leading anti-doping nations to exchange information and best practices and to discuss current issues.

Canada maintains up-to-date information on international trends and issues related to anti-doping, and ensures their link to domestic policies and programs. In April 2004, Federal and Provincial/Territorial (F-P/T) Ministers responsible for Sport, Recreation and Fitness endorsed a Canadian Policy Against Doping in Sport, consistent with the World Anti-Doping Code.
