Strategic Review of the CBC
Issue
Media are reporting that there will be cuts to the CBC's budget as a result of a Strategic Review.
Facts
Since 2007, all federal organizations that receive appropriations from Parliament are required to conduct a Strategic Review every four years as part of their normal planning process.
A strategic review is an opportunity for an organization to examine all of their spending priorities to ensure that they are effective and efficient, meet the priorities of Canadians and are aligned with federal responsibilities.
All organizations that participate in strategic reviews identify potential reallocations from lower-priority and lower-performing programs, representing at least 5 % of their appropriation.
As committed to in Budget 2007, the final results of the annual strategic review process will be announced in the following federal Budget.
This year, the CBC is one of several federal organizations to conduct a strategic review of its program spending.
The Government's track record is clear, it invests $1 billion annually in the CBC. In conducting the Strategic Review, the CBC will assess the relevance and performance of all spending activities and identify possible reallocations to reinvest in priorities.
