Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage
Issue
In Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada pledged to support families and communities. One way that the government is fulfilling this commitment is through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, which was created in 2007.
Facts
The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program provides opportunities for local artists, artisans, volunteers, and citizens to work together on activities that celebrate Canadian arts culture and heritage through festivals or other events. In addition to strengthening our communities and allowing citizens to discover the talent and history right in their own backyard, the program also offers family-friendly events and activities in towns and cities across Canada.
The Program has two components:
The Local Arts and Heritage Festivals component supports activities that involve the whole community, give opportunities to local artists and artisans to showcase their work, and celebrate local history and heritage.
The Community Historical Anniversaries Programming component supports one-time commemorations that celebrate a major event or a significant local person through festivals or other activities.
These activities help us--along with our friends, family, and neighbours--understand who we are and where we come from. These events also provide a boost to local businesses by attracting visitors to the area and help support local artists and artisans.
