(LS) Library Science

Some relevant fields of study: library science, or library and information science.

Our librarians must have a thorough knowledge of library and information science, to manage and offer library and information services to the Department's knowledge workers, to other federal public servants and to the general public. Their key roles and duties include:

  • Providing library services, especially reference, orientation, bibliography, consultation, record retrieval, record delivery and interlibrary loan services
  • Acquiring, organizing and managing works and collections
  • Classifying and analyzing library information and records (in traditional and multimedia format)
  • Training and assisting clients in the use of library resources
  • Planning and overseeing the deployment and updating of client services
  • Marketing and promoting library resources and services

Salaries range from $55,261 to $78,989 (LS-02 to LS-04)
