Review of the Revised Foreign Investment Policy in Book Publishing and Distribution
The public consultation process is now closed, and a ministerial decision on whether and, if so, how to revise the policy is expected in due course. This website will be updated with the results of the policy review when the Minister's decision is announced.
Working in conjunction with the Investment Canada Act, the Revised Foreign Investment Policy in Book Publishing and Distribution sets conditions for foreign investment in the Canadian book industry.
In response to our invitation, we at the Department of Canadian Heritage received input from individual Canadians, publishers, distributors, retailers, and associations, among others, with ideas on how to ensure that the policy remains current, effective, and responsive to a changing world.
We thank all those who participated in the consultation process.
Our consultation had three phases.
Phase 1: Participants were invited to read our discussion paper and send us their views by answering the related questions. This phase of the consultation is now closed.
Phase 2: Submissions received during Phase 1 were posted on this Web site for commentary until October 31. This phase of the consultation is now closed. However, it is still possible to view the submissions and comments.
Phase 3: Roundtable discussions were held in December 2010.
Input from all three phases will be used to inform our review of the current policy on foreign investment in the book industry.
